Situation
Customers may experience paper curling when feeding paper from the output tray of the LJ1200 family products. While several things can cause this, the primary cause is humidity in the paper. Secondary reasons include: grain of the paper and weight of the paper.
In order to decrease the paper curl, the following is suggested:
a) Make sure you are using fresh, dry paper (this is a must for ALL LaserJet Printers and the most common "fix" for paper curl). Make sure the paper meets HP paper specifications (Refer to Print Media Guide, p/n 5963-7863)
b) If paper and environment both meet the specifications, have the user set the paper type to "thin" paper in the printer driver. This will reduce the paper curl by reducing the fuser temperature.
c) If this does not solve the issue, send the customer the customer installable Paper Curl Kit. (P/N RG9-1519-000CN). This kit is free of charge to the customer when they install it themselves during the first year of product ownership. This kit has two Mylar "fingers" that are installed above the output tray bin that help "push" the paper down, reducing curl. Installation takes 1-2 minutes total and requires no tools. Photo Instructions are included with each kit.
d) If the customer does not wish to install the countermeasure, HP will install them free of charge for the customer when they return the product for repair during the first year of product ownership. The customer will have to pay for the part and installation after the first year.
NOTE: The top cover service part (RG0-1017) has been modified with a paper curl countermeasure. You can see the Mylar fingers that stick down from the top cover, near the paper output bin (see picture below. The top cover modification was a soft roll, so stock must be cleared before we are guaranteed that the cover ordered will have this change incorporated into it. (Note, if the cover you order does not have the countermeasure and the customer is experiencing paper curl, please order the customer installable kit and place this countermeasure in the top cover as directed by the instruction sheet with the kit.)
Note: Due to the fluctuation of serial
numbers associated with this, we cannot determine by serial number when the
countermeasure was installed. The only way to tell if a product has the
new countermeasure installed is to look at the date of manufacture or look at
the unit itself. If the unit was manufactured after 20 Sept 2001, it is
certain to have the countermeasure installed. Many units before this
timeframe do have the countermeasure installed, so a visual check can be done to
easily verify this once the unit is unpacked.
